The race will be held in memory of Susan "Suzie" Gallagher-Colurciello, a pre-school teacher and sister of Chief Executive Officer Patricia Gallagher.

"Suzie was more than a part of the Y-family for 15 years. She is the beloved sister to our chief executive officer, teacher to hundreds of four- year-olds throughout her career at the Y, and friend to all who knew her," the YMCA said after her death in May. "Suzie was part of the very fabric of the Y."

Gallagher-Colurciello, a Garfield High School and William Paterson University graduate, died at age 49. She loved the outdoors, vacationing, hiking and taking walks and working out.

Rules for the 5K are as follows:

  • Each team must have five members or more;
  • All participants must register for the race by individually completing an entry form and handing in the forms as a team with the appropriate payment;
  • All teams must wear their team T-shirt as the outermost layer of clothing during the entire race;
  • The first five participants and one team to cross the finish line will be considered the winners

Before Sept. 23, the cost for a team of five is $100 with $25 for each additional member.

The cost will be $150 after Sept. 23.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society, according to organizers.
